Hadith 10 of 42

Title

Allah is good, accepts only good

Translation

Allah is Pure and accepts only what is pure. He commanded the believers with what He commanded the messengers. Then he mentioned a man on a long journey, dishevelled and dusty, raising his hands to the sky saying 'O Lord, O Lord!' — yet his food is ḥarām, his drink is ḥarām, his clothing is ḥarām, and he is nourished by the ḥarām — so how could his dua be answered?

Commentary

The acceptance of worship depends on the acceptance of the worshipper; the acceptance of the worshipper depends on the sources of his food, clothing and income. Ḥarām earnings corrode not just the heart but the dua.
