    Ādam & Ḥawwāʾ — Forgive us

    رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

    Rabbanā ẓalamnā anfusanā wa in lam taghfir lanā wa tarḥamnā la-nakūnanna minal-khāsirīn.

    Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.

    Virtue

    The duʿā Ādam and Ḥawwāʾ made when they descended to earth — the first duʿā of tawbah.

    Good in this world and the next

    رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

    Rabbanā ātinā fid-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fil-ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā ʿadhābann-nār.

    Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

    Virtue

    The most frequent duʿā of the Prophet ﷺ — Anas ؓ narrated it.

    Do not let our hearts deviate

    رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْوَهَّابُ

    Rabbanā lā tuzigh qulūbanā baʿda idh hadaytanā wa hab lanā min ladunka raḥmah, innaka antal-Wahhāb.

    Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.

    The People of Knowledge make this duʿā — steadfastness of heart is the greatest gift after guidance.

    Mūsā — Expand my chest

    رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي ۝ وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي ۝ وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي ۝ يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي

    Rabbi-shraḥ lī ṣadrī, wa yassir lī amrī, waḥlul ʿuqdatan min lisānī, yafqahū qawlī.

    My Lord, expand for me my chest, ease for me my task, and untie the knot from my tongue so they may understand my speech.

    Virtue

    Mūsā ﷺ made this duʿā before confronting Pharaoh — the perfect prayer before a difficult task.

    Yūnus — No god but You

    لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

    Lā ilāha illā anta subḥānaka innī kuntu minaẓ-ẓālimīn.

    There is no god but You; glory be to You. Indeed, I have been among the wrongdoers.

    Virtue

    No Muslim supplicates with it in any matter except that Allah responds — narrated by Tirmidhi 3505 as sahih.

    Ayyūb — Adversity has touched me

    أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

    Annī massaniyaḍ-ḍurru wa anta arḥamur-rāḥimīn.

    Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.

    Virtue

    Ayyūb ﷺ made this after years of illness — the model for patient duʿā in hardship.

    Ibrāhīm — Make me steadfast in prayer

    رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ

    Rabbij-ʿalnī muqīmaṣ-ṣalāti wa min dhurriyyatī, Rabbanā wa taqabbal duʿāʾ.

    My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.

    Qur'an 14:40

    Ibrāhīm — Accept from us

    رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

    Rabbanā taqabbal minnā, innaka antas-Samīʿul-ʿAlīm.

    Our Lord, accept from us. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing.

    Virtue

    Ibrāhīm and Ismāʿīl ﷺ said this while raising the foundations of the Kaʿbah — recite when completing any act of worship.

    Qur'an 2:127

    Zakariyyā — Do not leave me alone

    رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ

    Rabbi lā tadhar-nī fardan wa anta khayrul-wārithīn.

    My Lord, do not leave me alone, and You are the best of inheritors.

    Virtue

    Zakariyyā ﷺ made this in old age — the duʿā against loneliness and the fear of leaving no legacy.

    Qur'an 21:89

    My Lord, increase me in knowledge

    رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

    Rabbi zidnī ʿilmā.

    My Lord, increase me in knowledge.

    Virtue

    The only thing in the Qurʾān Allah explicitly commands the Prophet ﷺ to ask more of — knowledge.

    Qur'an 20:114

    Grant us from our spouses and offspring

    رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا

    Rabbanā hab lanā min azwājinā wa dhurriyyātinā qurrata aʿyunin waj-ʿalnā lil-muttaqīna imāmā.

    Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.

    Qur'an 25:74

    Pour upon us patience

    رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ

    Rabbanā afrigh ʿalaynā ṣabran wa thabbit aqdāmanā wanṣurnā ʿalal-qawmil-kāfirīn.

    Our Lord, pour upon us patience, make firm our feet, and give us victory over the disbelieving people.

    Virtue

    The duʿā of Ṭālūt's soldiers — a small group who defeated Jalūt. Recite when outnumbered.

    Qur'an 2:250

    Allah is sufficient for me

    حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ ۖ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ

    Ḥasbiyallāhu lā ilāha illā huw, ʿalayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa Rabbul-ʿarshil-ʿaẓīm.

    Allah is sufficient for me; there is no god but Him. On Him I rely, and He is the Lord of the Magnificent Throne.

    Virtue

    Whoever says this seven times in the morning and seven in the evening, Allah suffices him in all that concerns him.

    Entry with truth, exit with truth

    رَّبِّ أَدْخِلْنِي مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٍ وَأَخْرِجْنِي مُخْرَجَ صِدْقٍ وَاجْعَل لِّي مِن لَّدُنكَ سُلْطَانًا نَّصِيرًا

    Rabbi adkhilnī mudkhala ṣidqin wa akhrijnī mukhraja ṣidqin waj-ʿal lī min ladunka sulṭānan naṣīrā.

    My Lord, cause me to enter a sincere entry and to exit a sincere exit, and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority.

    Recite when beginning any important undertaking — travel, a new job, a new stage of life.

    Qur'an 17:80

    Mūsā — Forgive me

    رَبِّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي

    Rabbi innī ẓalamtu nafsī faghfir lī.

    My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me.

    Virtue

    Mūsā ﷺ said this after an unintended act — immediate return to Allah with accountability and hope.
