Frequently Asked

Which Arabic text is this?+
The Tanzil Uthmani edition — the standard printed rasm of the Medina muṣḥaf, with full tashkīl (diacritics). This is the same text used by the vast majority of contemporary Islamic software and print mus'hafs. Text is the Hafs riwayah transmission from the Qirāʾah of ʿĀṣim, which is what the overwhelming majority of the Muslim world recites today.
Which English translation is used?+
Sahih International (Umm Muhammad, 1997). It is the most widely used modern English rendering — clear, accessible, aligned with Sunni orthodox readings. If you read Arabic, keep in mind that no translation substitutes for the original; read the translation as a study aid, not as the Qur'an itself.
How do I find a specific surah?+
Use the search field to filter by name, meaning, or number. 'Kahf' finds Al-Kahf, 'ya-sin' finds Ya-Sin, a bare '36' jumps to Ya-Sin, '55' to Ar-Rahman, and so on. URLs also work directly: /quran/36 opens Ya-Sin, /quran/1 opens Al-Fatihah.
How do bookmarks and last-read work?+
Tap the bookmark icon on any ayah to pin it; bookmarks appear at the top of this page and are saved in your browser (not on a server). As you scroll through a surah, your position is remembered — when you return, the homepage and the Qur'an index both show a 'Continue reading' card. Clearing browser data clears both.
Can I read the Qur'an offline?+
This page and individual surah pages are fully rendered ahead of time, so once a surah has loaded it stays usable offline for that session. For complete offline reading — including jumping between surahs without a connection — install the site as a home-screen app (Add to Home Screen / Install App) on your browser.
Is there recitation audio?+
Yes. Tap the play button on any verse to start recitation. A floating mini-player appears with skip, progress, and reciter selection. Four reciters are available: Mishary Al-Afasy, Abdul Basit (Murattal), Mahmoud Al-Husary, and Saad Al-Ghamdi. Audio auto-advances verse by verse through the surah. Your reciter choice is saved in the browser.
What tafsir (commentary) is available?+
Each verse has a collapsible Tafsir panel. Tap 'Tafsir' on any verse to expand it, then toggle between Ibn Kathir (classical, detailed) and Al-Muyassar (short, contemporary). In the Mushaf (page) view, the tafsir opens automatically when you tap a verse. Tafsir is sourced from Quran.com and cached for fast re-reads.
What about the adab of reading the Qur'an?+
Recommended practices: make wuḍūʾ before reading, begin with the ta'awwudh (أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ) and basmalah, read slowly with reflection (tartīl), and avoid interrupting reading for idle talk. Reading without wuḍūʾ is permitted for a phone or screen but for handling a physical muṣḥaf the majority view requires ṭahārah.

Arabic text: Tanzil Uthmani (CC-BY-ND 3.0) · English translation: Sahih International (Umm Muhammad). Text is for reading and reflection. For handling a printed muṣḥaf, ṭahārah is required.
