Definition
Innovation in religion — introducing an act of worship not established by the Prophet ﷺ or his Companions.
Example
The Prophet ﷺ said every innovation is misguidance. Bidʿah applies only to religion — new tools, timetables or administration of mosques are not bidʿah.
