Hadith 22 of 42

Title

If I do the farāʾiḍ only

Translation

A man asked: 'If I pray the obligatory prayers, fast Ramadan, treat the halal as lawful and the ḥarām as forbidden, and add nothing more — will I enter Paradise?' He said: 'Yes.'

Commentary

The pillars alone, well-kept, admit you to Jannah. This does not dismiss the nawāfil — they raise one's station — but it reassures the anxious that salvation does not require heroic extras. Get the essentials right first.
