Hadith 23 of 42
Title
Cleanliness is half of faith
Translation
Purification is half of faith. Al-ḥamdu lillāh fills the scales. Subḥān Allāh and al-ḥamdu lillāh fill what is between the heavens and the earth. Ṣalāh is light. Charity is proof. Patience is radiance. The Qur'an is a proof for you or against you. Every person starts his day either trading for his soul — freeing it or destroying it.

Commentary
A concentrated tour of the inner life. Nawawī places it here so the reader remembers: the outward acts (purification, ṣalāh) are tied to inner realities (light, proof, radiance). Each morning is a transaction with your soul.
